Since graduating from Winchester School of Art in the early 70s I spent my working life as a textile designer.I painted a variety of subjects during a long and successful career, but was particularly known for my florals and this remained my passion. I am now in the fortunate position that I can paint for its own sake and do not have to follow the constraints of the commercial  world.

Working on a large scale I enjoy developing my ideas from photographs taken from flowers grown in my own garden and found on my travels. Colour is a driving force behind my paintings and combined with the subtle tones and textures discovered through close observation, I enjoy painting flowers close up that have the delicacy and luminescence of the real thing.

At the moment gouache is my chosen medium and I paint on a heavy smooth paper that allows me to layer the paint to create the depth and subtlety of colour desired.
